ELI5: the feynman technique
// explanation
What is the Feynman Technique?
The Feynman Technique is a way to learn anything by pretending to teach it to someone who knows nothing about it, like explaining it to a little kid [1][5]. It's named after Richard Feynman, a super smart scientist who won a Nobel Prize [4].
Why does it help you learn?
When you try to explain something in simple words instead of using fancy words, you find out what you really understand and what you're just pretending to understand [2][5]. It's like the difference between memorizing how to ride a bike versus actually being able to ride one [2].
What are the main steps?
The technique has four steps: first, pick a topic and try to teach it simply, then find the hard parts you don't understand, look up those tricky parts, and finally explain it all again even more simply [1][3].
How does it make you smarter?
By breaking hard ideas into simple explanations, you actually understand the concept deeply instead of just remembering facts [3][4]. This helps you remember it longer and use it in new ways [2].
