ELI5: second brain
// explanation
What is a second brain?
A second brain is like a notebook outside your head that remembers things for you [1][5]. Just like your real brain gets tired from remembering everything, a second brain (usually a notes app or folder) stores your ideas, thoughts, and important information so you don't have to keep them all in your head [1][4].
Why do you need one?
Your actual brain is amazing at thinking and creating, but it's not great at remembering every little thing you learn or every idea you have [5]. By writing things down in an organized way, you free up your brain to do what it does best—coming up with new ideas [1].
How do you make one?
You pick a tool like a notes app (many people use Obsidian) and start saving your ideas, links, and thoughts there [2][4]. You can connect ideas together so that when you look back, you can see how things relate to each other [2].
What does it help with?
A second brain helps you be more productive and remember important things without stress [1]. It makes it easier to find information later and helps you see connections between different ideas you've learned [2][5].
