ELI5: what is pure pessimism
// explanation
What is pure pessimism?
Pure pessimism is when someone believes that everything bad will happen and nothing good will come [2][3]. It's like thinking that every single day will be terrible, every game you play will end badly, and nothing you do will ever work out [4].
Why do people think this way?
Some people focus so much on the bad things that happen that they forget about the good things [3]. They might have had lots of bad experiences, or they just naturally expect the worst to happen in every situation [2].
What does it feel like?
It feels like wearing glasses that only let you see the bad parts of everything [4]. A pure pessimist looks at the sky and only sees storm clouds, not the sunny days that come afterward [3].
Is it a good way to live?
Most people don't stay pure pessimists because it makes life really hard and sad [2][3]. It's better to have a mix of expecting some good things and being realistic about bad things too [3].
