ELI5: stoic
// explanation
What is stoicism?
Stoicism is a way of thinking where you try to stay calm and not complain, even when bad things happen to you [1]. It's like being a superhero who doesn't get upset no matter what challenges come their way.
Why do people practice it?
People practice stoicism because they believe that getting angry or sad about things you can't control doesn't actually help you [4]. Instead, they focus on what they can control, like how they treat others and the choices they make.
What does it feel like?
Being stoic means keeping a brave face and not letting your feelings control you [1]. It's like when you fall off your bike but get back up without crying, because you know crying won't fix the bike.
How do you practice it?
You practice stoicism by paying attention to your thoughts and reminding yourself that you can only control your own actions, not what happens around you [4]. This helps you stay calm instead of getting upset about things you can't change.
