ELI5: newton's third law
// explanation
What is Newton's third law?
Newton's third law says that for every action (push or pull), there is an equal and opposite reaction [1][3]. Think of it like this: when you jump on a trampoline, you push down on it, and it pushes up on you with the same amount of force [1].
Why does it happen?
Forces always come in pairs [3]. When two things interact with each other, they both push or pull on each other equally hard, just in opposite directions [1][4].
What does it feel like?
When you throw a ball, the ball pushes back on your hand with the same force you use to throw it [5]. When you swim, you push water backward, and the water pushes you forward [1].
How do you use it?
You use Newton's third law every day without thinking about itโwhen you walk, your feet push backward on the ground, and the ground pushes forward on your feet, making you move [1][3].
