What is the change of base formula?
The change of base formula lets you switch a logarithm from one base to a different base, kind of like converting inches to centimeters [5]. Imagine you have a question asking "what power do I raise 2 to get 8?" but your calculator only works with base 10 โ the change of base formula helps you answer it anyway [2].
Why do we need to change bases?
