ELI5: kessler syndrome

// explanation

// eli5Imagine you're in a room full of bouncing balls. At first, there's plenty of space and they barely bump into each other. But as more and more balls are added, collisions start happening more often. When balls collide, they break into smaller pieces, creating even more objects bouncing around. Eventually, there are so many pieces flying around that crashes happen constantly, making it impossible to add new balls. This is what could happen in space around Earth [1][3]. NASA scientist Don Kessler realized that once we have too much space junk orbiting Earth, one crash creates more debris, which causes more crashes in a never-ending cycle [4].
