ELI5: gravity
// explanation
What is gravity?
Gravity is an invisible force that pulls things toward the ground, like a giant magnet pulling objects down. [5] Everything in the universe has gravity, including you, the Earth, and even the Moon—it's what keeps your feet on the ground and stops you from floating away. [5]
Why does it happen?
Gravity happens because big things like planets and stars pull on smaller things around them. [5] Think of it like a invisible rope connecting everything—the bigger something is, the stronger its pull. [5]
What does it feel like?
You feel gravity every day as the weight pushing you down on your chair or bed. [5] It's the reason you fall down instead of up when you jump, and why water falls from the sky instead of floating away. [5]
How does it affect space?
Gravity keeps planets orbiting around the Sun and the Moon orbiting around Earth, like they're going around in circles on invisible tracks. [5] Without gravity, everything would float off into space and nothing would stay in place. [5]
